Jonathan Shopley

As an early pioneer of the carbon markets, Jonathan Shopley has an impressive understanding of how carbon market instruments have developed over the last 10 years, what’s worked to ensure credibility and quality of carbon reductions, what should happen in the future and the action business have and should take. He also has particular expertise on forestry and its future as a carbon instrument.
Jonathan regularly attends the UN COP meetings, represents The CarbonNeutral Company on the Carbon Markets and Investors Association (CMIA) and the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), and frequently speaks at client and industry events throughout the world.
Jonathan joined The CarbonNeutral Company in 2001 as CEO. For the following six years he led the Company’s evolution and expansion across Europe. In 2007 he became Managing Director, responsible for the Company’s contribution to international policy developments on climate change and standards for carbon trading and carbon offsetting. Prior to The CarbonNeutral Company he held the position of Managing Director and Vice President in Arthur D. Little, the technology and management consulting company. Jonathan was founding co-chair of The International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance (ICROA), which provides leadership and a unified voice advocating rigorous industry standards in the voluntary carbon market.
