Peter Young

Peter Young is Strategy Director at SKM Enviros in the UK and has over 30 years international experience in multi-disciplinary environmental management consulting.
He advises companies, public sector bodies, government departments and investors on the economic opportunities and strategies to meet environmental sustainability challenges and deliver a low carbon and resource efficient economy. He has worked with UK government (Defra, DECC and BIS and their antecedents) on developing high level policies for competitive advantage in a low carbon economy, as well as companies (from start ups to large plcs), specialist investors and regional bodies to help them exploit opportunities throughout the environmental technologies and services sector.
He is actively involved in promoting the economic benefits of a strongly regulated and technically high quality environmental services sector; particularly as Chairman, Aldersgate Group, and as a member of the UK Government’s Green Economy Council. He is also a Member of the Advisory Council, Environmental Industries Commission; and Chairman, Department of Environmental Science and Technology Programme Advisory Group, Cranfield University He regularly provides advice at ministerial level and has given evidence to UK House of Commons’ Committees. He is currently active advising on the establishment of a UK Green Investment Bank, introducing economy-wide carbon accounting to support the UK’s mandatory carbon budgets and developing innovative policies for low carbon skills, valuing ecosystem services and resource efficiency.
Peter has one of the first degrees ever awarded in Environmental Chemistry, and has worked in the environmental sector throughout his career.
